The state of FLOW
At the Institute for Frontier Areas of Psychology and Mental Health (IGPP) of Freiburg we’re studying the experience of time.
Video games make people lose track of time because they are associated with a psychological state called flow. But not every game works in the same way for every player.
With our studies we’re trying to understand which aspects of games better generate the flow state and compare VR and computer-based technologies to see which better contribute to the creation of this state.
Moreover, we’re trying to define the brain mechanisms involved in the state of flow, analyzing brain and electrophysiological signals of the subjects while playing video games.
On the other hand, we’re also interested in the experience of time when time doesn’t seem to pass. We’re using a waiting room VR scenario and see how this affects the subject’s time perception.
